Things a Kid from Foster Care Wishes Their Foster Parents Would Know… or Ask (20 Minutes)

To access this course, you must be an Active Member of the NFPA, or purchase the 54th Education Conference. See https://devnfpati.vinebuzzbuild.com/manystoriesonecommunity/ for complete details and to purchase the conference.

Guests

Kaylee Blanco, California Delegate, National Foster Youth Institute (NFYI)

William Woelki, Doctoral Student at the University of Delaware

Summary

Our NFPA Executive Director Arnie Eby hosts a delightful and insightful conversation with two young adults with experience in foster care, and gains their insight into what they would like all foster parents to know about the experience of the children in their care.

Related Resources

In William’s discussion, he speaks about the importance of language. For example, we say ‘a child in foster care’ instead of ‘foster child’ as an affirmation that being in foster care does not define them. The NFPA hosted a Coffee with Caregivers session on this topic – the resources are still valuable, and support William’s perspective beautifully, so we have included them here.
